Stress

8906 - 99 Street (Fiddler's Roost)

tix. $6 (advance); $8 (at the door)

Main Room: Echo (Progressive House), Payne (West Coast), Joy (Trance), Cziolek (Acid House), Sun-E-Smiles (Epic House)

Live: Quantum Force (Acid)

Ambient: Sherridon (Psychedelic Lounge)

+ Smart Bar

Warm up party: Friday, August 9th at Eden
Design: Shannon Routley

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A review of this party is available, thanks to King Ron's Party Reviews and the Wayback Machine:
"After 'Gatorave', I decided to head over and check out this party at around 3am, which was held at this place called the 'Fiddler's Roost' [picture below]. I only found out about this party the same day it was on so I couldn't attend earlier and I didn't stay long either. The featured DJ's were Echo, Corey Payne, Joy, Cziolek, and Sun E Smiles aka Nicky. There was also supposed to be a live act by Quantum Force which I missed, and Sherridon was playing in the ambient lounge.
"The lighting was minimal with the strobe lights illuminating the room, and the wood panel walls were covered with foil with some streamers hanging across it. I don't know what the place is normally used for, but it looked kind of like a church basement giving an atmosphere of a darkly lit hall party with techno. [...]
"This was not a very big event with only about 60-70 people present nor was this a big venue."

Streetview of 8906 - 99 Street, venue for "Stress." Called 'Fiddler's Roost' here.

Gatorave: Retro Rave

Source: Bronx Flyer Archive

Love Children Productions, the event promoters that started the rave scene in E-town with parties like Brilliant, Gatorave and Future, once again bring you their annual retro techno bash.  We take you back to the earliest days of techno, with classic tracks like "James Brown is Dead" and "Get Ready For This," and artists like Joey Beltam, Moby, Utah Saints, Messiah, the KLF and Opus 3.

A Love Children ReProduction

From King Ron's Party Reviews:
"This annual party is different from all the other parties because it features techno predating 1993 [...]  There were 2 featured DJ's : LD-50 and Terminator Rex, both from when the Rev was called the Bronx.

"I arrived at around 1:30am and there were about 100-150 people present. I'm not sure who was playing at the time, but it was neat to hear tracks such as the self titled track Church of Extacy and Harder'N'Deeper by DJ Hooligan. [...]

"The lighting was minimal with the strobe light going creating a darker more underground atmosphere than Summer School. There was also a cage suspended above the dance floor with a female dancer gyrating in it which was fun to watch.

[...] Older techno has such a different sound to it and it was neat to compare it to techno today."

Crunch

"You can call it a sanitized sell-out version of the normally underground Rave movement, but Guy Almog says he’s creating something people want. And he says he puts together a better rave than anyone in Edmonton, underground or otherwise.
"It’s the second rave he’s organized for the bar [after "Retrosonic Vibes," December 26, 1995], after earlier stints working on rave-related events at the Atomic Cafe, JRJ’s (now Cowboys), the Bronx (now the Rev), and Flashback.
[...] “When somebody promises you Traci Lords and she doesn’t show up (a reference to a highly-publicized warehouse party last year that was supposed to feature the well-known American performer) or the DJ’s don’t show up because [organizers] can’t come up with the budget to pay them, or you pick up a flyer and it doesn’t even say where [the rave is being held], because they don’t know until the last minute, that gives people an idea about raves."
